  1. Jennifer S- Please forgive me for not responding to you message of 12-13-2010. I see that you posted back last December....that was a period of time when I underwent some eye surgery so I was off the internet and the drawing board for a while.. I don't log in on this forum much anymore for various reasons. Please contact me on my wife's email at jeneene@ymail.com and I'll be happy to answer all your questions....

    Hello sir!

I was recently pointed to your book on how the tomahawk was used on
the colonial frontier. If I was more interested in learning about
the frontiersmen and what they practiced than simply a "how to" -- would I be better off looking for your first or
second book? I've not had a chance to see them in real life of yet.

(I ask as I do colonial era backwoods living history, and I'd like to
know more of what I "might have seen"... especially as a hand axe
is normally close to hand for kindling)

Also - I don't suppose there's any way to know if the Ulster Scots
doing so much of the scrapping up and down the Appalachians brought
over any kind of formalized instruction, or if they'd just been rough
and tumble since boyhood and passed things along informally? I'd
always assumed the latter, but then, I remember being a little
surprised at seeing mention of all the texts and schools from the middle ages as well.

Thank you so much for your work, sir!
