My 1897 British infantry officers sword!

    Good sword for the price?

I got this sword about a year ago now for £35. It is an 1897 infantry officers sword it has no markings to indicate how old it could be but it does have a king George the fifth cipher so that narrows it down. but most important of all what do you guys think about it? Good value?

    Hi Sam,

Looks like a First World War "wartime economy" model of this sword - the treatment of the crown and cypher on the guard is a bit sketchy (normally these are properly pierced through rather than etched onto the surface), but it's no less genuine for all that. We don't discuss values on this forum, but a few minutes googling on the US eBay.com site will give you an idea of what this pattern normally sells for (and I'd be surprised if you found any as cheap as what you paid!).

After closer inspection by me I can now say that it has a George vi not George v cipher what I could not see before so not as old as I thought
