For sale: French Artillery Gladius p.1831

I offer for sale a nice example of a French Artillery 'Gladius' Model 1831. This revised model replaced the original c.1816 French artillery sword and was used as an all-purpose weapon and tool around camp, as facsine cutters, and for hacking or chopping anything, hence the nickname they became known as "Coupe Choux" or "Cabbage Cutters". Still a nice short and heavy and deadly sword for fighting at close quarters.

This example was manufactured by Talabot of Paris, probably around c.1840. The poincon stamp is visible on the ricasso.

The diamond section blade measures 19 inches in length and is solid in the ribbed brass hilt, although no doubt through contemporary use the tip has a very slight bend to it.
