    Post A Georgian Hybrid Sabre

This is an early officer’s hilt that, probably, due to the angle of its construction, had a very curved blade with an early ‘Wilkinson’-style fullered blade (with VR cypher). I suspect the original officer found the first blade to be too curved and opted for something with a little more capability in the thrust as an upgrade. The blade is perfectly firm in the hilt, has only minor pitting and has the same dark colouration of the rest of the sword. It was made by Thurkle, being retailed by a London company that I can’t quite make out but you might. The etching is still visible and was high quality in its day. The steel scabbard is in good condition with no dents, and few patches of inactive rust — I think it was browned at one point and perhaps so too was the sword, hence the unusual dark colour. None of the shagreen is loose.

This is a solid sword in the hand, pretty unique and at what I consider to be a low price for such an early piece.

    £275

Postage will be £15 on top (I prefer UK sales at this point, please)
