    Post A Pre-1803 Flank Officer's Sabre

This is a pre-1803 infantry sabre of the style adopted by flank company officers who wanted a better fighting sword than the regulation 1796 Pattern Spadroon. The sword is still fairly sharp and has a straighter, stiffer blade than most of its type—clearly the officer who owned it wanted to be able to thrust as well as cut. It has some nicks to its edge, the grip has lost much of its leather covering and patches of pitting (particularly at the tip) and that salt-and-pepper patina are throughout. It’s a confident, good sword in the hand and I think an excellent opportunity to get an uncommon Georgian sabre at a reasonable price.
