    Folding hinge assembly

    Hi all,

On the 1822 British infantry pattern with folding hinge; can anyone tell me how the hinge pin is retained?

    Thanks

    P. S. An answer has just occurred to me. I was assuming that half of the knuckles (the pin housings) were integral on the shell of the hilt and half integral to the fold down section.

I've just realised that the whole pin and fold down assembly could be peened together at both ends incorporating two independent knuckle sections which are then brazed to the shell.

On mine, the pin is just filed off and smoothed to a rounded surface- it was never meant to be removed anyway.
