"Briquet" French Infantry Hanger, Model 1816

    Hello,
I am trying to identify the mark "CA" on the ricasso of a saber that I have recently aquired. Research has lead me to believe that it is a "Briquet." It has a brass hilt that is in great shape, a blade that has a nice dark gray color, and a 5 inch false tip. Any information about the marking on the ricasso and its history would be helpful.

    Thank You,
    D. Swaro

    hi
the mark CA or sometimes C.A is associated with civil war USA confederate swords, the mark can be found on Briquet (just like yours) or on bayonets, i have the CA mark on a british model 1853 saber bayonet.
altough there are is no confirmqation to this i have seen quite a few Briquets and bayonets sold in the us with confederate history and quite a few of those had the CA mark.
so all i can give you is an educated guess.
