Adrian, I've been meaning to ask this almost since I joined SFI but never had the nerve to intrude - when did Don pass and can we have a 'proper' anniversary celebration for him?

It seems I missed an outstanding prescence in the on-line world and would like to do 'my bit' to honour that man.

June 7th 2004 was when we received the news, I think he actually passed on the 6th..

A proper drink to him would be a Diet Coke.

(looking again, he passed on the 6th, it's in the description for the pub)

    Ah, so it is Jeff.

Thank you for directing my dimly sighted eyes to where they should've looked. It goes to show that sometimes you truly do not see what is in fromt of your face .

well, looks like my Anniversary Celebration(wrong word but it's more proper than a funeral type word, i didn't mourn his death i celebrated what sounds like a life well and happily lived) was off by three months, i shall drink a few twelve packs of diet coke(blech) on june 6 then, anyone care to join me?

Celebrating someones life is a fitting way to remember someone who has passed .

I'll raise a glass with you at the appropriate time, if I may (fortunately I don't mind Diet Coke but I might have a glass of Laphroaig on hand as well ).

As of today, June 6th, Don has been gone 3 years.

I raise my coffee cup to you, Don. I sure wish you were still here, setting the tone for these forums, making it a more interesting and friendly place for everyone.

And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.

All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

    Life goes on?

OK, I've held off posting in this thread for 3 years.

I registered almost to the day of the passing of Don.
I did not know him at the time. I don't like to comment on a person's life, personality, that I never knew, but...

Since, I have had several searches and Don's posts came up a few times.

Sorry, but not really a fair trade for SFI, (me for Don).

A little long winded, but a gentleman from the "old school', at least compared to my generation.

Don was full of good practical wisdom for everyday life. Whether you agreed or disagreed with him you were confident he would give you a fair deal and an honest word.

a month late, but still as sincere. Don was a very neat guy, he inspired a few of us, and as stated above, was always a good guy to go to for sensible, down to earth, advice if you needed it.

He is missed, and it is obvious. There were a lot of things he pet the peace with here, and after he was gone, things fell apart for a while, but lately, they seem to be reconnecting as they were.

We can make this an even greater community, Don wanted that.

Let us not let his hope fall apart, ever.

If you want to honor the man with a drink, crack a Diet Coke

I've given up soda and fruit juice, or I would do it myself.

I haven't posted on SFI in a very long time but I feel there is no better reason to come out of the woodwork than to celebrate the life of a great guy like Don. He was always there for anyone that needed him. In the relatively short time he was on this forum he gained everyone's respect (even from those who disagreed with him). Yes, you are missed much, Don. I raise my glass to you. Cheers.

Wow. Don sounds like he was a really good person. I'm sorry I never had the chance to know him.

The Pub that bears your name

    Don,
With the pub that bears your name being saved by those members who courageously stepped up and became "brewmasters" I'd like to raise my cup in memory of you and the spirit you always represented !

May your attitude be a guidance to all members to help the pub to become a place that deserves your name.

To you and the brewmasters !

Today is the anniversary of Don's death. They keep coming around. I don't have anything to say that I didn't say last year or the year before, except I sure wish you were still here with us, Don

I don't frequent this forum that often anymore. But I will put my comfort aside to pay homage to Don Nelson.

    You are truly missed, Don.

I looked at the date today and said "4 years."

At the time, I didn't know 4 years for what, but now I remember.

Don, I'll go take a drink for you as soon as I finish typing this.

I wasn't going to but I sent his Wife an e-mail a few days ago, asking if it was ok to call.

She sent me a reply saying she looked forward to it.

She and I talked not long but it reaferm that she is well, and happy.

My short talk with her made me happy, I can not say why but I know she and Don's daughter are well.

Don, you LIVE in us, and in your Family.

God speed my friend, I remember and am watching over them as best I can.
