flickr : Kendo and Koryu Pictures

Not sure where to post this, so I hope here is ok.

I'm not a professional photographer by any means, but I realised that - living in Japan - I have a lot of chance to visit some cool kendo and koryu shiai/keiko/embukai/etc, so a couple of years ago I started taking some pics. Ive only recently started to get anything near semi-serious, so please dont be dissapointed.

I have kendo pics spanning 4+ years, and koryu pics from about 3 embu, including an ace one just this past weekend in Nara.

Anyway, if you are interested please check my pics out. Those of you that are flickr members, please feel free to comment...

    My pictures on flickr

My friend also took some good pics from the embukai last weekend. You can see his stuff here.

    Enjoy!!!

    koryu photos

    George,

Thanks for showing us the photographs you have taken. Very nice work. A couple of questions:

    1) which dojo was it where you took the pictures of the nafuda gake? I'm guessing that you train there, no?

    2) are you the same fellow who trained with the Yagyukai in NYC? If so, how are you? Have you been able to practice with the Osaka group? If so, please give Nagata-san, et alia, my warmest regards. I hope your kendo/iaido practice is going well, too.

Please send me a private message with your e-mail address. I'd like to meet with you when I am in Japan next year (February or so). It would be great to be able to train together, too!

And, as always, if/when you're ever in the Tri-State area, please come to train. I am practising at my own dojo in New Jersey for the most part, and only go into The City occasionally.

I've just spent ages on a slow connection looking at all those. That's an awesome collection.

    Thank you.

hi George, welcome to the forum. thank you for sharing these pics, they are very good quality, and are welcome here. you have a good eye for detail and composition. If you don't mind, I may 'sticky' these at the top of the forum so people can see these without searching. Hopefully you will keep updating them? We have a sticky to youtube iai videos, this could be another good resource, IMO.

    Morning,

Glad everyone likes them...some flattering comments!! I hope you checked out my friends pics as well.

Although there is a lively group of us on flickr posting kendo pics, there is basically no koryu stuff.... I might start a group for it (though it will be lonely if I am the only person on there).

    Dave -> Sure, no problem.

Meik -> thats me, will pm you now.

    Again everybody, cheers!

    I'm late

.. to add my thanks for you sharing these great pictures with us - you for certain have "the eye" to see what makes a good picture and capture "the moment".
I wish I had that talent. Some of your pictures capture stillness, some the tension before action and some contain really great action.
my favourite so far is " 小手 3 ".

    My sincere thanks again

George, I just wanted to compliment you on all the amazing pictures you have posted.

Also, I just wanted to share perhaps one of my favorite pictures from the 2007 PNKF Taikai. I didn't take the picture, but I think it is a great action shot:

    Apolgies

    Apologies guys,

I ended up removing my pictures from flickr for 1 reason or another. I now have a website that has a gallery (less pictures at the moment, but will add more) and a collaborative blog. Its just been made live, so there are not many articles there at the moment... more will come however. Anyway the site is:

    kenshi247.net

The ART OF KENDO group on flickr is still going strong though, but the KORYU one doesnt see much action for whatever reason.

Anyway, apologies to people who followed the dead links.
