    Ottoman Turkish Yataghan ca.1800.

    This Turkish Ottoman Empire yataghan dates to the late 18th-early 19th centuries. Richly engraved blade contains arabic writing which may contain the exact date and owner's name. Blade is struck with the maker's cartouche. Grip of traditional form is made of horn, and riveted to the tang. Rivets are capped with silver knobs that also add to the stability of the weapon in one's hand. Hilt furniture is also silver, with traditional designs. Overall length - 73 cm, length of blade - 59 cm.

    CONDITION: Horn grip has one or two small worm holes and age wear, otherwise intact. Silver furniture was field-repaired with lead from a musket ball, which has an unmistakable patina. Blade has acquired a beautiful dark patina as well, and is straight and true.
    =====================================
    Sword is guaranteed to be as described. If condition of the sword is incorrectly described by me, a full refund sans the shipping costs will be issued to the purchaser.

    PRICE: $430 incl. Insured Priority Mail in the 48 States. Overseas postage add $20.

    I have been alerted by a knowledgeable collector that the cartouche on the blade is YA ALI, which is a SHIITE expression that means O ALI, and is battle cry or a plea for strength in battle.
