    Blade inlays question

    Hello,

when searching for old Jian or Dao I often see pictures as this:

This examples are just wallhanger fakes. But my question is concerning the copper rivets in the blade. As I often saw it even on really old blades, it must have a reason.
    Is it for Balance?
Covering rust holes, forging damages etc?
Or just a question of design?

In any case I suppose it will weaken the blade.

    Best regards
    Torsten

Do a search on "seven stars" and other likely terms. There is allot of good information out there.

The brass inserts are shallow and appear to prevent cracks spreading. The blade would be no good after the fight, but it would keep going without snapping while you were still fighting.
