That's also what my pastor said, I just recalled. In their (biased?) opinion, the Japanese occupation was "God's way of removing the Koreans' stubornity and destroying their pride, thereby paving the way for the gospel to flourish".

Ooops, I better be careful with what I said - I don't want to dig a hole like you did =P

Yeah, I think your perspective about people "trying to recreate a living organization from a manual" is very well put. I used to study a Korean art (Hwarangdo) before, but objectively speaking, you made a valid point.
