Guess I can't be a ninja then...
But I don't mind being a pirate.
How much booty does someone need to plunder to get their hands on that sword is what I'm wondering... arrr!

Sounds like the old "How do you make such a fine blade?.... Very carefully!"
:D
It's gorgeous, and thanks - I'll try keeping a few bastard files next to my anvil when I'm working on my next...
That.
Looks.
Gorgeous.
Do you use any kind of fixture to get your angles set properly? I've moved back into doing knives since I got my new forge and smithy all fixed up, and I keep making...
I'm surprised nobody started a pirates vs. ninjas argument yet... ;-)
Sweet piece.
dude, awesome find. What ever happened to your borg cubes and sand worms?
Tapers aren't really all that hard, since you can get angle blocks down to 1/4 degree or less if you want precision setup, or you can simply make a fixture and shim it.
I'm making a prop sword...
You should forge six more, and name them the Deadly Sins.
I'll take Lust.
I lust for that blade.
ZOMG.
*drool*
Definitely the makings of a badass blade.
*steals technique*
:ninja:
I had a Eureka moment last nigh. Coated a disk of steel with my last handful of refractory and dropped it in the bottom of my forge fire pot. Woo!
Raised the fire up about an inch and a half, so...
that one could in fact measure the CoP of a sword blade by striking the edge of the sword, while suspended from nigh on massless and frictionless pivots (i.e. very fine thread) horizontally, with the...
Gun.
I really wish I hadn't taken a 4 month break from the anvil.
*rubs shoulder*
Anyhow, this might not be the thread to discuss it, but it's certainly worth discussing. Moment of inertia...
Screw off, I'm just having fun!
:-p
But honestly, this is what I can contribute.
I don't have a rockwell tester, or a temperature controlled oven, but I do have some electronics experience,...
I did a chisel a while back and posted it on here, and did a similar single-cord wrap in white. The effect was that the 1/2 inch diameter handle wound up just shy of 3/4 of an inch, maybe 5/16. The...
Lightwave 3D is nice, but when I tell it smooth, it smooths ALOT.
As rendered, it kinda just looks like a bit of a divot in the blade.
as executed, it'll pretty much have the cross section...
Mwuah ha ha ha.
I shall retain the salt upon the blade with the power of my MIND!
/*The air crackles with electricity*
Actually, I'll simply build a rub-fence out of heavy paper to run the...
It's actually a few minutes after I screamed "This is Sparta!".
And yes, Stamper. I know, you're a funny guy. I'm a funny guy. We can tear each other to shreds and go buy each other a beer and...
What, no bones to pick about the photos?
Trying to hide your raw feelings?
Don't feel like toying around?
I'm really disappointed. I was totally expecting some cracks about the rawhide bone...
Here's the pommel w/o onyx inlay, and the leather cord-wrapped tsuka/grip. As I said before, it's japanesque, not japanese. Think Ikea.
;-)
Once I mill the wood grip for the tang and...
With the offset fuller... should I have more hamon on one side than the other?
I'm planning on near net-shaping the blade prior to heat treat, then just hitting it with the final polish. I do all...
Weak Sauce.
When I got the post update in my email I actually said "wtf?"
But very nice.
Telling, as well, that you decided to exercise your artistic abilities in portraiture.
Hmm... is...
but here goes nothing, right?
Youtube to the rescue... I'll post a nice one of a bar, and maybe one of a decently tapered sword too, but here's something to get you started:
...
I'm starting a project thread to take you guys along with me through the forging of my first fully functional forged blade.
It's a long-ish cane sword. Around 28-30 inches for the blade, with a...
You've got a Turkish Muslim terrorist's defacing efforts on your main page.
He's been going around posting inflammatory remarks regarding israel/US all over the place, primarily on US and Canadian...
Do what?
Ahshokan - Sam, I get the play on words, but what's the non-played word mean?
Sounds like a relative of the late, great, Kubla or Ghenghis.
*listens for hoofbeats*
Peter: Thanks...
Just don't start with a 10 pound chunk of aluminum and hog the whole thing out.
Maybe split it up into a few pieces so you can use a saw to cut the profile of the wings, for example, out of a flat...
