I'm sorry, but I couldn't disagree more about this statement.
First, sword lengths and shape varied considerably, from the short, but heavy and curved khopesh, to the long thrusting sword found at...
Ohhh, a lot of interesting stuff there!
I have to go there sometime soon...
Yes, I guess you are right.
Nevertheless, I don't know how much effort was spent in the actual mining of the tin.
Also, I guess that transportation costs were also quite high, without a direct...
Not bad... And another milestone. :-) Now the only thing left is to prospect and mine the metal yourself as well. ;)
The tin yield seems very low though. Did you expect this? In this way, serious...
According to Wikipedia, the sword has a Greek inscription and may well be made by the Byzantines...

But my idea is also that it's quite an old...
Thanks for the pics Joe. That must have been an amazing trip!
Success!?!
See at the bottom of this page a Chinese jian that is very like the Hunnish swords, although still not like the sword in the first post:...

Joe, that's a really interesting sword! It's relatively late, but still has a ring pommel... It's unlike any other sword I've seen from this period. It somehow reminds me of the sword from Brut,...
I'd suggest doing some file work on the guard, to make it a bit less flat and bulky.
But I think it's a big improvement already. :)
Yes, the Huns (or rather the Hunnic confederation) did use weapons from other cultures, in particular the Sassanids. But this particular sword does not strike me as being Sassanid, Roman, Germanic,...
I started a thread in the Ancient Weapons forum on a very puzzling sword, supposedly of Hunnish origin, probably 4th - 6th C. A.D.

All in all, this sword remains a mystery to me. It's not like any sword I've ever seen really, but it does seem to belong in the migration period.
I'm looking forward to some input by people who...
And another Hunnish sword, also from Hermann Historica.
Also here: lenticular blade, prominent crossguard, no pommel. The gold leaf hilt resembles the later Germanic gold hilted spatha's.
A while ago, a link to the following sword was posted on MyArmoury.

Really, really nice. And an amazingly *personal* sword as well. Thanks for sharing and congratulations!
And (almost) another year went by...
Anyone heard anything yet?
Thanks for the pictures Geir! One can never visit all the museums in the world, so having pictures is the next best thing. :-)
I especially like the picture of the 12th century sword. Interesting...
Thanks for posting this story, and welcome to the forums. :-)
What I find strange though, is the mention of bronze weapons. Persia was well into the iron age at that point. Also the "dagger" (it...
Good to hear that and thanks for the update.
Next time you speak to him, you might want to ask him to come on the forum to give a very brief update on how he's doing.
I'm not asking about an...
Very nice work once again!
I really like broadsaxes, and it's very nice to finally see a good reproduction. :-)
So, how does it handle?
I'm still waiting for a MS2104. Last contact? Good question... More than a year ago, at least.
Any news yet? It has been some time...
