I use Viva paper towells on my blades...they are softer than regular paper towells, and my Wife says they are actually washable.....don't know about that, but I know they are more spendy than other...
Cheness does offer some blades in shirasaya fairly reasonable, and I don't think anybody has much of anything bad to say about their blades...........they also offer some length options and geometry...
