    Help needed: African(?) Short Sword

    Hi All,

Can anyone assist with narrowing down the region of origin of this piece? It has a 17" blade of possibly European manufacture - there is a maker mark of a unicorn head towards the handle end (see pics).

    Any advice appreciated!

    Cheers,

    John

    Hi John,

Looks like a European machete blade. The tassels suggest Manding work to me, so West Africa, Mali.

Many thanks, Emanuel - exactly the kind of help I was looking for. I agree that unicorn doesn't look African!
