    Camp Fenby Summer Session 2015

We will hold this year's Camp Fenby Summer Session on Friday through Sunday, July 10th, 11th and 12th, 2015. This is the weekend after the 4th of July, so we can look forward to a lot less traffic by land and water, and off-peak prices for blue crabs. As usual, it will be held in Oakley, Maryland (St. Mary’s County, about 60 miles south of D.C.)

Camp Fenby is sponsored by the Longship Company and is an official Markland event; open to all members and the public. We usually work with medieval and historic arts and crafts, using a mixture of original and modern techniques. We usually have some instruction for beginners, especially for safety in using tools and techniques. In addition, more experienced participants are welcome to use the forge and woodshop for their own projects. Saturday evening usually features a “chip in” crab feast, on site; plus other activities such as songs and stories, into the evening around the fire pit. Camping is available on-site, and there are a number of nearby motels, hotels and cottages within 5 to 45 minutes of the site.

An additional, if independent, activity this year will be uprigging the longship and taking her out for a shakedown voyage on Saturday. You can help step the mast on our Viking vessel, and then either return to your projects, or help set sail on her to see what shakes and what falls down. Latest updates on this activity may be found at: http://longshipco.org/upcoming.html

The next questions, as usual, are what do folks want to learn, or projects to work on, or what are they interested in teaching, and what additional activities (besides the crab feast; like a ...restaurant raid? ...starlight longship voyage? ...creative photography in the swamp? ...snipe hunt?) are folks interested in?
