    How about this US M1840 Wristbreaker made in 1857?

    Could this be a genuine US Civil War sabre?

    Looks fine. Compare the maker's three line mark with the first sword you posted.

    Again, agree with Glen. This is genuine and a fairly nice example.

    I really like that one. I am at a point of not wanting to adopt later swords but even while having a wristbreaker, a nice Ames might tempt me.

    Ames marks are very interesting and can yeild lots of information. Nathans tendency to change marks often and indeed use different maker marks for various reasons is a valuable marker. Eric

    not to stir the pot but I got a ames 1859 sword like the one pictured here but my wrist breaker is bigger and heavier than the 1859 one and I can see why they called it a wrist breaker ! bigger grip and longer blade also ... bill
