    French Epee

    Hello

I have a French Epee, but I can't quite date it?
I was thinking very early 1800s?
What branch of service does this sword represent?
    Thank you very much
    Tony

Unscrew the topknot (counterclockwise) and look carefully at the grip. If this has a plastic grip it will be as late as the 20th century. The fittings go back to the First Empire period but I believe you will find this one to be much later. Mine fooled me until I had it apart.

Do you have images of both sides of the blade at hilt (like a third of the blade). Is it a smallsword trefoil blade or slim fullered on both sides?

    Cheers

    A few more pics
    Thank you

If the top unscrews, it is later. If it is peened, earlier.
