Imperial German Finger Loop - Die Fingerschlaufe

Hi all and especially those of us who collect Imperial German swords. Does anyone have the leather pattern for reproducing the leather finger loop (Die Fingerschlaufe)? I have several swords where this loop has been damaged, torn or is missing and I'm thinking it would be nice to replace these loops.

    Cheers,

    Greg

Greg: I used to make them in the 70's, a monumental pain to make..One needs a German fine needle sewing machine, and the paint used is no longer available easily. They were coated with what amount to Airplane dope, a nitrate lacquer that is no longer made that I know of.

As to pattern, get a Model 1889 with a good loop and trace it out. I no longer have my patterns.

OK, glad to help...There are leather paints that can be used, but research is needed...The local leather shop here does not use them.

If you require a shiny black finish that withstands bending try Leather Luster, used for gun belts, boots etc. Paints on with a brush and you can add layers.
