    Unknown Sword

Hi all could any one ID this old sword for me, it does not have many markings but the ones it has I've taken pictures of, it also has a wooden grip. Many thanks for your time.

Tony, you seem to have posted this in the wrong forum, perhaps the moderators will move it for you! The leather finger loop is indicative of Prussian design, but couldn’t comment further.

The wooden grip suggests Turkish or Italian, the crown/GC marking I have yet to find could answer which country it belongs to.

It's no Italian that I know of but I can see the resemblance.

I've been told it could be Belgium Gendarmerie, what do you people think?

Thanks all for your input, I think we are getting somewhere now. And you are correct David R its a very well balanced, heavy good looking sword.

I've seen a similar sword described as "Belgian - Sabre heavy cavalry(guides regiment) model 1822/73/93" . no idea if that is accurate. I don't have any Belgian reference works. Can anyone recommend one?
