Lightbulb Hessian 115th Regt Officers' Saber.

Gents: Found this one on line, at the usual suspect!..

1st Hessian Infantry Regt, No. 115. Has the gold cypher of Grand Duke Ludwig IV, he died in 1909 and was succeeded by his son, Ernst Ludwig. This dates it to before 1909, and after 1904..

WK&C is the maker, and the top of the blade is etched with the retailer; "Uniform & Militair Effecten Fabrik-Darmstadt" That is exactly as seen..One presumes Hessian dialect in the spelling.

Ludwig IV was the Grandson of Victoria, his mother was Princess Alice..

Good catch Dale! The gilt cypher on the blade is the cherry on the top.

George and Guys: These extra purchase or Officers' weapons are often etched, sometimes, blued backgrounds, but rarely show up with gold embellishments...Not common at all---most likely, due to the cost at the time..

Guys: Silver hilt, so it is actually a Cavalry Saber, Hesse had 23rd and 24th Dragoon Regiments...
