PATTERN-WELDED AND SILVER TULWAR - £600

This tulwar has thick silver on the hilt, created using the zarneshan technique of decoration and arranged to the form poppies (or perhaps they are sunflowers). The blade feels excellent in the hand and shows the grainy swirls of old pattern-welding.

WOOTZ AND GOLD KATAR - £1,000

A katar of familiar Mughal form, this piece is probably date-able to either the late 1700s or the early 1800s. The handle is fully decorated with gold leaf, applied to show a geometric pattern over its entire surface. Married to this is a long, tapering blade that has been formed entirely from a wootz steel that displays a fine-grained pattern. The blade is still sharp and its lines still crisp. This comes with a modern sheath.
