    Sword Identification

I was wondering if anyone recognizes the symbols on the blade part of this short sword? I don't think the handle is original and I have been researching for days trying to figure out if this is really an old sword a friend asked me to look at or if it is something more modern to look old. I am no expert on swords.

    Hello, Brian.

The symbols on your blade (crescent moons) are typical of generic Solingen (Germany) production since the 18th century, or earlier. I'd say that the blade of this big hunting knife or hanger (what I think it is) comes from a shortened sword, the blade surely made in early to mid-19th cent.

    Hope that helps.

We often see these twin moons on kaskara/saif of northern Africa. I would vote for a repurposed cut down blade.
