1850 presentation grade German bladed sword, Star rank?

    Hello Gents,
Have a presentation grade US sword but just wondering if anyone know if the stars on the hilt signify rank as some french blades do or purely decorative./
    cheers

I think you may have one of these https://www.bertrand-malvaux.com/fr/...e-juillet.html
I think the star mark is regimental not rank but as your sword is a lot more fancy perhaps owned by a superior officer of this regiment or a presentation sword.

That hilt is for the Chasseurs de Vincennes, a French light infantry unit that got its start in 1838. The stars are not indicative of rank. I've attached a shot of the hilt from the example in my collection.
