1912p Wilkinson Sword, Royal Horse Guards. E.W. Mitchell

A new addition is this 1912p Wilkinson sword 50735 of the Royal Horse Guards. Etched in a banner on the blade is the name E.W. Mitchell. I have not found much info about him though he was MiD in WW1 and transferred to the Guards Machine Gun Regt. Wilkinson proof page has his name recorded.
The sword itself has a round checkered pommel, not stepped. The grip ferrule doubles as an angular thumb stop.
Of course a large "RHG" on the guard that appears to have been treated with black oxide as is the blade of 35 3/8" long. (blade is several shades darker than the photos show). A small "W" or "M" stamped on the reverse of the serial number.
Blade is service sharpened including the false edge.

Great find Will, quick Gazette search has him as a Temp. Lieut. RHG from the Reserve Regiment in 1917, hopefully you’ll find much more about him.

The colouring of the guard is very attractive.

I have overlooked the fact that the guard of this RHG sword is approximately 3x the thickness of the 1908p troopers and has no rolled edges. With the blade being longer than the 1908p it shares nothing identical of the 1908p. (Edited) Well not 3x thicker , thew 1912 measures 0.080" thick and the 1908p troopers guard is 0.050" thick, still a substantial increase.
