    Lightbulb Zodiac Animals in Japanese Art

    The following article on the animals of the zodiac is mainly a compilation of the information I gathered from the books listed under “references”, and other non-print sources. It contains an introduction to the subject, photos of E-ma, Kodôgu and Netsuke depicting the animals described, and charts that help identify the date of signatures inscribed with the zodiac cycle instead of the actual year.

    In order to keep the formatting of the original article, and for those readers who can’t display Japanese fonts on their computer, I converted the article into an Adobe Acrobat file (pdf). Due to the size limitations of attachments to posts (the entire article contains more than 30 pages) I had to split it into 11 zipped, downloadable files.
