    unusual ECW Mort and rapier and i got to play



    i got to play with all these yesterday at a friends museum, thoughts?

    first is an unusual mort, never seen one with a peirced blade before

    excellent balance great to handle

    second unusual rapier type blade engraved with SOLI DEO GLORIA and a parlimentarian priest? !!

    used in the ECW?

    basket hilt with a flame shaped blade again very good balance a pleasure to hold

    Hi Dominic,
    Great bunch of swords, and I like that Mort! The only other one with a pierced blade that comes to mind is one in the Met in New York, but that one has 1 central pierced fuller.

    Interesting English cav basket as well; usually those "trellis" type hilts are set up as squares instead of diamonds.

    Damn, I always meant to visit when I was living just down the road from it. Now I really wish I had - that perforated blade is something else. Purely decorative, surely?
